Project Update June 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Now that the rains have virtually stopped in Zambia work is continuing at the school with improvements to the buildings.\u00a0 An electric pump has been fitted to the existing bore hole, a water tank erected, and a standpipe with a tap.\u00a0 Also work on the new toilet block is in progress.\u00a0 How fortunate we are that we have mains water available!<\/p>\n<p>We are continuing to send \u00a32,500 per month to pay the school teachers, upkeep and food for Jeannie\u2019s home, and I am often asked how we manage to do this. \u00a0Money comes in from various sources.\u00a0 Many young people who have visited the school and stayed with Jeannie, regularly keep in touch and are keen to help as well as churches and other organisations.\u00a0 A few examples are :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tom and Zoe when they were at Oxford University raised a large sum for extra nutritional food for the children.\u00a0 They have now moved on into work: Tom is teaching at a school in Zambia and visits Jeannie, and Zoe works in London where she (being an \u2018old girl\u2019) gave a talk to the children at Westminster School and they organised a \u2018dressing down\u2019 day and have sent \u00a31131 for food.<\/li>\n<li>Jack, another ex-student who stayed with Jeannie, donates monthly and his father who runs an inter-school football tournament in several London schools also regularly sends contributions.<\/li>\n<li>Recently I gave an illustrated talk to the Monday Club at Havant United Reformed Church as they collect pennies for the Heal Project and regularly send cheques.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We have received the following update from Tom:<\/p>\n<p>\u2018About 3 weeks ago we took all Jeannie\u2019s kids to run in something called \u2018The Ultra Marathon\u2019, organised by one of the International schools in Lusaka.<\/p>\n<p><a hour relay race. \u00a0There were five or six kids in a team, and the team ran for the three hours, one person at a time, and tagging the next person in.\u00a0 It was SUCH fun. \u00a0All the kids were amazing \u2013 so keen, listening to all the rules so they were sure what they were doing, and running like the wind. \u00a0I think the youngest running was probably 7 or 8, right up to 18. \u00a0The 5 teams we had all did amazingly, and one of them even won the trophy! \u00a0We had a picnic lunch there and stayed for the presenting of the prizes, with an enormous cheer when one of our teams won!
